The delegation of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, headed by the President of NAS RK Professor Kunsulu Zakarya, visited Nazarbayev University on January 18, 2024 to strengthen cooperation in the sphere of science. During the meeting the key directions and prospects of joint cooperation aimed at the development of scientific potential of the country were discussed.
On behalf of the Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan Professor Kunsulu Zakarya expressed gratitude to Nazarbayev University for its contribution to science and education in Kazakhstan. She also noted that within the framework of the task set by the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the development of exploration, mining industry, the Academy aims to strengthen cooperation with NU and its School of Mining and Geosciences to contribute to the economy of Kazakhstan.
Professor Kunsulu Zakarya made a special emphasis during the meeting on the 125th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Kazakh scientist in the field of geology, academician and founder of the Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan Kanysh Satbayev. This significant date will be widely celebrated in the country throughout the year. The Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan has also planned a number of events to celebrate the anniversary. Professor Kunsulu Zakarya invited faculty and management of NU to take an active part in their organization.
During the visit program, the delegation of the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan visited the laboratories of thin sections, sedimentology and petroleum geology, as well as mineralogy and petrography of School of Mining and Geosciences of Nazarbayev University. The delegation was familiarized with the process of making high quality slides for the study of rocks and minerals, as well as with the complex analysis of sedimentary rocks. Young scientists of National Laboratory Astana NU presented their projects in the field of advanced materials for energy storage. Developments of the Institute of Smart Systems and Artificial Intelligence (ISSAI) were also presented, including projects in the field of multilingual speech recognition and machine translation.
At the end of the meeting, Acting President of NU Professor Ilesanmi Adesida expressed gratitude to the delegation of the Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan for the visit and expressed readiness of NU to cooperate with scientists of Kazakhstan to promote science and exchange of experience. He noted that NU is working on creating conditions to attract young doctoral students to work for the benefit of national science. Cooperation between NAS RK and NU will contribute to improving the quality integration of the world’s best scientific practices, effective cooperation with domestic universities to support young scientists and further develop education and science.
