On March 4, 2024, a round table dedicated to the development of science was held at the «House of Friendship» in Almaty. The round table was attended by leaders of sectoral academies of sciences and professional associations of scientists in Kazakhstan.
Opening the round table session, the President of the National Academy of Sciences, A. Kurishbayev, noted that the Head of State, K.K. Tokayev, constantly emphasizes the need to develop domestic science and takes real measures aimed at enhancing its role in the accelerated development of the country’s economy. Evidence of this is the creation of a separate authorized state body—the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the National Council for Science and Technology under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as the elevation of the status of the National Academy by reorganizing it into the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and more than a threefold increase in science funding.
He also added that such support from the Head of State obliges us to focus our collective efforts on achieving a common goal—ensuring the qualitative transformation of research activities, increasing their efficiency and effectiveness.
During the round table, all participants decided to work together to develop approaches to address the challenges facing our country in the field of scientific and technological development.
It was particularly noted that the modern Academy has its unique mission: to fill the systemic gaps that exist in the management of science. At the core of our new mission is the unification of leading scientists who are willing and able to contribute to the development of Kazakhstani science. The main focus of our vision is to strive to become an autonomous, authoritative expert scientific organization providing independent proposals.
During the round table, bilateral Memorandums of Joint Activities were signed between the National Academy of Sciences under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the public sectoral academies and associations of scientists in the country.
