Academies of Sciences of Kazakhstan and China to Research Environmental and Land Resources Issues

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed in Beijing between the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NAS RK) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The academies will now develop cooperation in the fields of agriculture, medicine, and space research, reports Kazinform’s own correspondent.

According to the Vice President of NAS RK, Lyazzat Yeraliyeva, the agreement envisions the future conduct of scientific research in the areas of space, agro-bioresources, ecology, and medicine.

«The signing of the memorandum of understanding will be an important step in strengthening scientific ties between Kazakhstan and China. Today, this cooperation must be enhanced,» she said.

The Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan was established in 1946. In 2023, the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan was reinstated with state status.

The Chinese Academy of Sciences, established in 1949, is the leading center for fundamental research in the natural sciences in the People’s Republic of China. It comprises more than 100 research institutes and three universities.

Today, with the support of the heads of state of Kazakhstan and China, in addition to economic ties between the two countries, the sphere of cooperation between research organizations and higher education institutions is actively expanding. One specific step taken is the decision to establish the «Kazakh-Chinese Scientific Center» at the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Furthermore, to coordinate activities in the fields of science and education for sustainable agriculture in the neighboring countries along the Silk Road, the parties agreed to establish a research center to implement innovative water-saving technologies to combat drought.
