On November 20, 2024, a meeting between representatives of the National Academy of Sciences under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NAS RK), the Central Asia Sustainable Innovation Bureau (CASIB), and Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) took place at the «Gylym Ordasy» building in Almaty.
The main topics on the agenda included strengthening academic and research ties between Kazakhstan and Germany, as well as exploring new areas of cooperation.
The participants from NAS RK included Dr. Abay Serikkanov, Vice-President of the Academy, Dr. Anar Mukhtarova, Head of the Scientific and Technical Cooperation Center, and Ms. Botagoz Shakerbayeva, Chief Academic Officer. Representing Martin Luther University were Dr. Gerd Schmidt, Senior Lecturer and Project Coordinator, and Ms. Dorothee Kley, Account Manager. CASIB was represented by Dr. Peter Liebelt, Head of the Central Asia Sustainable Innovation Bureau, and Ms. Assiya Sagymbay, Assistant.
During the discussions, key directions for future collaboration were proposed, including joint research on sustainable development, ecological innovations, and academic staff exchange. The participants emphasized the importance of establishing closer connections between the scientific institutions of the two countries.
Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg is one of the oldest universities in Germany, founded in 1502. It is renowned for its achievements in medicine, chemistry, and other fields, as well as its extensive international partnership network. CASIB, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, actively contributes to sustainable development in Central Asia through scientific projects and innovative initiatives.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to prepare for the next stages of cooperation, marking a significant step towards strengthening scientific and economic partnerships between Kazakhstan and Germany.
