On January 29, 2025, within the framework of the International Dialogue on Global Knowledge and the Third General Assembly of the International Science Council (ISC) held in Muscat, Oman, a meeting was held between representatives of the academies of sciences from Central Asia and the Caucasus. The key topic of discussion was the prospects for establishing a regional office of the ISC in Central Asia and the Caucasus.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Academies of Sciences of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Russia, and Turkey. The participants emphasized the importance of consolidating the scientific community of the region to strengthen international scientific cooperation and promote the exchange of advanced technologies.
On behalf of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Vice-President of the Academy, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Lyazzat Yeraliyeva delivered an online speech.
«Science knows no borders, and in today’s realities, it is crucial to unite our efforts to address global challenges. Kazakhstan, as a country with strong scientific potential and a strategic location, is ready to contribute to the development of the ISC’s regional office,» noted Professor L.Yeraliyeva.
During the meeting, ISC President Peter Gluckman presented the mission and strategic vision of the organization, while ISC Director-General Salvatore Aricò provided an overview of the ISC’s current regional offices. As a result of the discussions, the academy representatives expressed their interest in continuing the dialogue and cooperation with the ISC to determine the optimal format for its operations in the region.
All participants highlighted the importance of strengthening regional scientific cooperation and expressed their support for the ISC initiative to establish a regional office. This office would serve to coordinate scientific efforts and facilitate the integration of the regional academic community into the international scientific system.
The National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan remains committed to actively participating in ISC initiatives and contributing to the development of a strong regional scientific partnership.
