Meeting of the President of the NAS RK with the ambassador of the People’s Republic of China: expansion of scientific and technical cooperation

On May 22 of this year, the President of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mr. Akhylbek Kurishbayev, met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Kazakhstan Mr. Han Chunlin.

During the talks, the parties discussed the prospects for the development of scientific and technical cooperation between Kazakhstan and China, paying special attention to technology transfer and the implementation of joint research projects. The strategic importance of cooperation in the field of science and innovation was emphasized.

One of the central issues of the meeting was the creation of the International Joint Laboratory for Space-Time Artificial Intelligence and Sustainable Development (IIL-SAI&SD). The project is being implemented within the framework of a signed memorandum between the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Zhejiang University of Technology, with the participation of leading Chinese high-tech companies.

The laboratory, for the creation of which it is planned to invest 1 billion yuan (about 70 billion tenge), is located on the basis of the Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan. It will become an important platform for collaborative research in key areas such as disaster forecasting, precision agriculture, smart agriculture, energy, logistics, mineral exploration, and water resource management.

From a strategic perspective, IIL-SAI&SD will ensure large-scale scientific cooperation between Kazakhstan, China and the countries of Central Asia within the framework of the Belt and Road initiative, facilitate the effective transfer of new knowledge and technologies, and enhance the training of specialists and young scientists.

The parties expressed confidence that this project will be a significant step in strengthening international scientific cooperation and contributes to the introduction of advanced technologies in Kazakhstan, China and the Central Asian region.

At the end of the meeting, they confirmed their readiness to further expand the partnership and successfully implement new joint initiatives for the benefit of sustainable development and innovative progress.
