Kazakhstan needs an agency to solve global biosafety problems. This opinion was shared at the Astana International Forum by the President of the Academy of Sciences under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kunsulu Zakaria, a Kazinform correspondent reports.

“There were anti-vaxxers both in the world and in our country. You all know this very well, but this problem was not entirely large-scale, because literate and educated citizens told the people that the vaccine has been used for 200 years and it saves the lives of so many people,” said Kunsulu Zakaria.

Zakaria emphasized that COVID-19 is the largest pandemic to occur in the last century, and people around the world were not prepared for it. She also recalled that QazBioPharm recently held a forum “Lessons from the pandemic: the experience of Kazakhstan.”

“Now, after a while, we understand that we have lessons and rules that were formed after that pandemic. We must remember this. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has repeatedly spoken about the creation of the World Biosafety Agency and raising this issue to a higher level at large-scale forums. But, unfortunately, I don’t see much work done. We need an agency that will deal with global biosecurity issues,” added Kunsulu Zakaria.
