On January 23, 2025, a meeting took place at the historic «Gylym Ordasy» building in Almaty between Mr. Michal Labenda, the Charge d’Affaires of Poland in Kazakhstan, and the leadership of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The meeting aimed to discuss prospects for the development of scientific and technical cooperation between Kazakhstan and Poland.
Mr. Labenda, who is fluent in the Kazakh language and possesses a deep understanding of Kazakh culture, shared the objectives of his visit, plans, and proposals from the institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He also announced the upcoming visit of the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He emphasized the importance of strengthening academic ties between the two countries and noted that Polish investments in Kazakhstan are actively growing, particularly in agriculture, creating additional opportunities for joint research projects.
Representing the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan at the meeting were Dr. Lyazzat Yeraliyeva, Acting President of the Board; Dr. Anar Mukhtarova, Head of the Department for Scientific and Technical Cooperation; Dr. Balzhan Makhatova, Head of the Center for Life and Health Sciences; Mr. Nurdaulet Jumabayev, Chief Academic Officer at the Center for Life and Health Sciences; and Ms. Botagoz Shakerbayeva, Chief Academic Officer at the Center for Scientific and Technical Cooperation.
During the meeting, the participants discussed the priority areas of scientific activity for both sides and the possibility of signing a Memorandum of Cooperation. They also deliberated on organizing and holding an international round table or conference dedicated to research in the fields of archaeology, climate change, and preservation. Additionally, they considered exploring the customs, traditions, and culture of the Polish diaspora residing in Kazakhstan. Special attention was given to sustainable development, including the implementation of modern technologies in water resource management and environmental protection. Mr. Labenda highlighted Poland’s readiness to share expertise and knowledge in these areas.
Dr. Lyazzat Yeraliyeva expressed her gratitude to Mr. Labenda for his visit and highly appreciated his contribution to fostering Kazakh-Polish dialogue.
